Secure Your Castle – 2.0

The City of Redondo Beach Announces ‘Ring’ Partnership and Subsidy Program for Local Residents Initiative aims to reduce crime in neighborhoods through investment in affordable, easy-to-use, and effective smart home security

The City of Redondo Beach announced its partnership with Ring and details for their joint subsidy program that will provide discounts for local residents who wish to purchase select home security devices. During the subsidy program period beginning April 15, 2019, Redondo Beach residents will have the opportunity to receive a $100 discount code funded by Redondo Beach and Ring. The approved $50 from Redondo Beach combined with $50 provided by Ring will enable 560 residents to participate in the program on a first-come-first-served basis. However, those residents that previously applied for a Ring Video Doorbell through the Secure Your Castle program, and are eligible, will be contacted and given an option to purchase the device on April 14, 2019.

“We’re excited to partner with Redondo Beach to make our Security Doorbells and Cameras available to local residents at an even more affordable cost,” said Jamie Siminoff, Chief Inventor and Founder of Ring. “Even without a Ring device, City residents can connect with one another and stay up-to-date on local crime and safety information by downloading the free Neighbors App by Ring. When neighbors, the Ring team and local leaders all work together, we can create safer communities and reduce crime in neighborhoods.”

“The Secure Your Castle Program is perfectly in line with the Redondo Beach’s Police Department’s vision,” said City Police Chief Keith Kauffman. “We are the community leading the way in law enforcement. The Police Department is proud to work with Ring and offer a discounted crime-fighting tool that will help keep the community safe.” “April 15th is not a date associated with the government giving back to the community,” said City Attorney Mike Webb. “However, the City of Redondo Beach is proud to partner with Ring on this day to help those living in Redondo Beach protect themselves and their families at a substantially reduced cost.”

About the Subsidy Program, The subsidy program will incentivize the purchase of Ring Video Doorbells and security devices which connect to the user’s smartphone or tablet via the free Ring app (iOS/Android). Residents are then notified when the motion sensor is activated or if someone rings their doorbell, or they can choose to view the camera’s live video feed at any time. Optional video subscription services are available for purchase to residents who want to save their Ring videos to view or share them at a later time.

About Redondo Beach The City of Redondo Beach is committed to making public safety a priority. Around May 2017, the City Attorney’s Office created the “Secure Your Castle” program to provide a subsidy for Ring video doorbell cameras. At the February 12, 2019 City Council meeting, the Agreement between the City of Redondo Beach and Ring which provides a $100 subsidy to purchase a camera for eligible residents was approved. This program has been subsidized by a $28,000 contribution from the City, which was allocated from the Serious Crime Reduction Fund and the General Crime Prevention Fund, and a matching $28,000 contribution from Ring. The City of Redondo Beach hopes to expand the Secure Your Castle program to assist in the prevention of crimes and help protect the City residents.

About Ring’s mission is to reduce crime in neighborhoods by creating a Ring of Security around homes and communities. The Ring product line, along with Neighbors by Ring, enable Ring to offer affordable, whole-home and neighborhood security devices and services.
